About Us

At The Glaistig Group, we believe a handbag is far more than an accessory. It is a quiet companion — carried through the everyday and the extraordinary, holding the things that matter most. Each piece we create is designed to be worn for years, loved through wear, and remembered.

Our Story

The Glaistig Group was founded in Edinburgh with a simple conviction: that modern women deserve handbags of genuine quality, designed with care and made to last. Taking our name from the Glaistig — a graceful figure from Scottish folklore known for her protective spirit and quiet strength — we set out to build a house that honours craftsmanship, tradition, and timeless design.

From our atelier on historic Thistle Street, in the heart of Edinburgh's New Town, we bring together heritage technique and contemporary sensibility. Every bag that leaves our workshop carries with it a piece of that story.

Our Philosophy

We design slowly. We produce in small, considered quantities. We refuse shortcuts. Where the wider industry moves toward mass production and fleeting trends, we move in the opposite direction — toward restraint, longevity, and integrity.

Every silhouette we release has been questioned, refined, and questioned again. If a piece does not earn its place in the collection, it does not make it to you.

Craftsmanship

Each Glaistig handbag passes through the hands of skilled artisans who have spent years mastering their craft. We work with premium leathers sourced from reputable European tanneries, solid brass and palladium hardware, and linings chosen for their softness and resilience.

Stitching is hand-finished. Edges are hand-painted and sealed in the traditional manner. Every clasp, rivet, and seam is inspected before a piece is considered complete. This is slow work, and we would not have it any other way.

Materials

We believe that what a bag is made of matters as much as how it is made. Our leathers are selected from tanneries with generations of experience and verifiable ethical practices. Whenever possible, we choose vegetable-tanned and chrome-free options, and we work closely with our suppliers to ensure traceability at every step.

Our hardware is produced to last a lifetime — solid, weighty, and engineered to age gracefully rather than wear out.

Designed in Edinburgh, Made to Last

Every design begins with a sketch on the drawing boards of our Edinburgh atelier. The city itself — its architecture, its textures, its particular quality of light — quietly shapes every collection we release. We draw on Scottish heritage without ever being nostalgic, and on modern life without chasing what is fashionable.

The result is a wardrobe of handbags that feel both considered and effortless: pieces made to travel, to commute, to celebrate, and to accompany you through the years.

Our Commitments

Craftsmanship. Every piece is made by skilled hands, inspected thoroughly, and finished to the highest standard.

Quality. We use only materials we would be proud to carry ourselves, and we stand behind every bag we produce.

Responsibility. We produce in small batches to reduce waste, work with ethical suppliers, and offer a lifetime repair service so your bag remains with you for as long as possible.

Service. Every customer is personally cared for by our Edinburgh team. Whether you have a question before ordering or a request years after, we are here.

The Lifetime Promise

We stand by every piece we make. Should your Glaistig handbag ever need attention — a replaced stitch, refreshed edges, a new clasp — our atelier will care for it. A well-made bag should last a lifetime, and we design and repair with that in mind.
